I bought a car, what next?? Check what you should do after purchase of the vehicle!
The formalities related to the purchase of a used car do not end with the signing of a sale and purchase agreement. As a purchaser of a vehicle, you need to be aware of additional steps that are incumbent upon you. Check where to go to fulfill the obligation to buy a car.
Signing the sales contract is only the beginning of the formalities that the new vehicle owner is required to complete. Failure to do so may result in financial consequences, e.g. for driving an unregistered car or using an uninsured car.
Report the transaction to the tax office
Did you know that the purchase of a car must be reported to the tax office? It is necessary to submit a completed PCC-3 form, which is the basis for paying the tax due.
According to the regulations, a purchaser of a car must pay a fee – a tax on civil law transactions in the amount of 2% of the vehicle value. However, this applies only to those buyers who have purchased a car from a private person.
Remember! Although the amount of PCC depends on the price of the car, you can not “artificially” lower its value. The officer has the right to charge tax – according to the market value of the vehicle – when there is a suspicion of an attempt to evade tax.
The tax must be paid within 14 days – counting from the moment of signing the sales contract.
About who is exempt from paying PCC, you can find out from the article published at https://rankomat.en/samochod/buy-samochod-what-further.
Car registration at the department of communications
The car has to be registered based on the data of the new owner, therefore it is necessary to visit the traffic department – appropriate for the place of residence.
You should apply to the office with a set of documents – these are:
- application for car registration,
- document confirming identity,
- proof of car ownership, e.g. sales contract (or VAT invoice),
- registration certificate,
- vehicle registration card,
- A valid third party insurance policy.
You also need to pay a registration fee, the amount of which depends on the type of your new torch.in. whether you have to replace the registration plates. The standard fee is PLN 180.50 if the plates have to be changed, or PLN 100.50 if the existing plates have to be kept. The fee may be higher by PLN 1000 if you decide to order individual number plates.
Remember! If you re-register the car within the same county, you may keep the old registration plates.
You must report to the Communications Department within 30 days from purchasing a vehicle. The office also has 30 days to prepare the registration certificate. Until then, you will use the vehicle on the basis of a temporary permit – for a period of 30 days.
Taking out third party insurance for the car
Every registered vehicle must have valid third party liability insurance. It is a compulsory insurance, under which the insurer assumes liability in case of a road accident caused by the perpetrator.
You should be aware that buying a third party insurance immediately after purchasing a car is not always a necessity. In most cases, the previous owner sells the vehicle with insurance valid for at least several months. Thanks to this, the purchaser – if he/she wishes – may use the policy or terminate it.
If you decide to terminate the third party liability contract, you will have to buy new insurance. Which insurance company you choose is entirely up to you. There is nothing to prevent you from deciding on the cheapest offer. Why? There is no point in overpaying for MTPL, as it is a policy regulated by law. The amount of the premium does not affect the scope of protection or the sums guaranteed.
To find the cheapest third-party insurance, you do not have to collect data yourself. You can use the insurance calculator, provided on the comparison site. All you have to do is fill in the form and in just a few seconds you will receive feedback on the prices offered by different insurers.
Remember that the formalities related to the purchase of a car do not end with the signing of a sale-purchase agreement. You must go to several institutions to fulfill your obligations in connection with becoming the owner of a vehicle.
